ALL ARE WELCOME

Rogue is a Los Angeles-based improv, storytelling, and artivism community open to everyone! Our goal is to help you grow as an artist and as a person.

We teach a FREE long form improv drop-in class on Mondays from 7-10pm PST in West Los Angeles.  Each month there is a new theme and every week a different teacher and difficulty level (Week 1 = Level 1, Week 2 = Level 2, etc.). No sign-up necessary, just show up!

We also host affordable speciality classes (i.e. Improv for Dating, Stand-Up Comedy, Sketch Writing),
in-person/Zoom storytelling and artivism workshops, and hold community events throughout the month. Check out our calendar! Better yet, get on the email list for our latest events!

What We Do

Improv
Our main ongoing drop-in class is a FREE (donations welcome) long-form improv workshop every Monday night from 7-10pm at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in West Los Angeles. No sign up, just show up! And not to worry, this isn't churchprov (even though St. Andrew's is a badass inclusive and LGBT+ affirming community like us, we are not associated with the church, they just allow us to rent their space). Each Monday, we have a different experienced instructor who has trained and taught at schools and theaters from all over L.A. and beyond- places such as The Pack, UCB, Groundlings, CSz, Giant, The H.I.T, Westside Comedy, The Improv Trick, Community, Second City, and iO West. We also offer 4-week cycle and one-off specialty classes throughout the month for $20 per class. Most of our classes explore the intersection between improv (comedic or dramatic- improv doesn't have to be funny, just connected) principles and life skills and are accompanied by a monthly theme. Past themes include Consideration, Awareness, Joy, Community, Confidence, Love, Fear, Expression, and Relationship. We believe healthier humans equal better collaborators and better collaborators have more opportunities to showcase their artistry. These themes also guide the exercises, games, and scene work that is done in class. We hope that everyone has an opportunity to hone their listening and collaboration skills while creating cohesive and engaging long-form improv. Leave that ego at the door and develop the ability to be a good teammate; build authentic, non-stereotypical characters; and adapt and be flexible no matter what unexpected twists come your way! The magic of improv is in letting go and creating something together rather than controlling what happens. #1 Rule of Improv at Rogue: AGREEMENT (not 'Yes, and'...which isn't a bad rule, but it has its flaws). Let's get on the same page so we can build something beautiful (and possibly funny) together!

Storytelling
Our first-person storytelling workshops are designed to awaken the thousands of stories inside of you. That's right, you have more stories to tell than you think. Through story mining and presentation sharpening exercises, we'll meet you where you're at to enhance your storytelling skills whether you're a veteran or brand new to the vulnerability of sharing your own experiences. We hope storytelling will empower you- fostering creativity and originality. Constructive feedback, if desired, is offered to allow individuals to refine their storytelling techniques. By the end these workshops, attendees gain a deeper understanding of storytelling methods and skills to enhance their ability to captivate audiences and speak their truth.

Artivism
Let's create art that comforts and challenges! Our artivism workshops are a transformative experience that combines artistic expression with activism to create social change. Participants engage in various art forms such as visual arts, performance, or multimedia to address pressing social issues. Attendees are inspired in exploring how art can be a powerful tool for activism and advocacy, fostering a deeper connection between creativity and social impact. The workshop aims to empower individuals to become artivists, bridging the gap between art and activism for a meaningful impact on society. Mediums to create socially conscious art include but are not limited to paintings, stories, sketches, stand-up, poetry, character monologues, or any other medium - serious or comedic - to express yourself.

Go Rogue
First off, we're ALL artists even if we don't make a living at it (yet...or ever!). With that said, we're all about inclusive learning, not exclusive levels. I mean, what good are levels unless you're actually learning anyway? We believe acting/improv/comedy schools are great opportunities to learn, but we want to challenge the idea that paying hefty fees for status or networking is necessary for success. Don't let someone else define what it means to be successful for you. Maybe we need to go rogue from playing by the gatekeepers rules. We also believe in community over competition. Let's be healthy artists who give more than they take. Let's also go rogue from the notion that artists are pitted against each other for opportunities. There's only one of you. Producers either want you or they don't. Meanwhile, create your own path, your own stuff. Maybe there's another way...Go Rogue!
